Dr. Dipankar Acharya has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of APA Insurance by the APA Apollo Group. Dr. Acharya brings an extensive experience and deep expertise to the company, having built a distinguished 37-year career in the insurance industry.
Dr. Acharya’s journey in the insurance industry includes significant leadership positions across four major insurance organizations, where he has managed business operations for over 30 years.
Dr. Acharya began his career at Oriental Insurance, a government-owned general insurer, where he worked from 1987 to 2001. During his 13-year tenure, he served as a Divisional Head, managing business development, underwriting, and claims management for his division.
Following his time at Oriental Insurance, Dr. Acharya joined Royal Sundaram, part of the RSA Group, where he worked from 2001 to 2017. As the Country Head for Accident & Sickness Risk (A&SR), he played a crucial role in driving consistent growth, meeting operational targets, and improving underwriting results nationwide. He was also instrumental in forming key national partnerships and alliances for the company.
During this period, Dr. Acharya also contributed to various insurance-related projects in Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
In 2017, Dr. Acharya transitioned to Jubilee Allianz General Insurance Company in Tanzania, where he served as the CEO and Director until June 2024. He also held the position of Director at Jubilee Health Insurance Company Tanzania. Under his leadership, Jubilee Allianz became one of Tanzania’s leading insurers.

Dr. Acharya has consistently driven profitability and growth throughout his career, with a comprehensive understanding of insurance products and a strong ability to manage diverse distribution channels.
Dr. Acharya is an alumnus of Delhi University, where he earned degrees in Economics and Management. He is also a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India and holds a PhD in Business Administration from AMU, India. Furthermore, he has a Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing from DMI.
